For more than two decades, Slovak - Czech photographer and traveler Roman – known across Africa as Papa Chui – has been roaming the wilderness of the continent. With his camera in hand, he captures moments that are both beautiful and fragile – from the majesty of big cats to the daily life of the Maasai community.
Ten years ago, he founded the Roman Wildlife Foundation, born out of a deep love for Africa and the conviction that nature can only be protected in harmony with the people who live within it. The foundation focuses primarily on the conservation of endangered species – leopards, lions, cheetahs, and rhinos, which face extinction due to poaching and habitat loss. Alongside wildlife protection, it also promotes education within local communities, supporting the growth of a new generation that understands the value of nature and is willing to protect it.
A vital part of the foundation’s mission is the collaboration with rangers in the Maasai Mara, who risk their lives daily in the fight against poaching. Thanks to this cooperation, large areas of wilderness are safeguarded, and awareness of the need to preserve nature for future generations is strengthened.
Papa Chui’s photographs are more than images – they are a message. Each picture tells a story of Africa’s beauty, strength, and vulnerability. His work builds bridges between continents and cultures, opens the eyes of audiences, and calls on all of us to share responsibility for protecting life on Earth.
